Bioinformatics Development

Faculty at BioinfomaticsThe development of the Medical Statistics Section's bioinformatics capabilities has continued to move forward with new faculty recruitments and additional research activities during the past three years. Primarily through the efforts of a very active Bioinformatics Working Group, we have established excellent capabilities in microarray and proteomic data management and analyses to support the Cancer Center members. The faculty members currently in this Working Group are: Drs. Dung-Tsa Chen (microarray data analysis; recruited in 2001), Sreelatha Meleth (proteomic data analysis; recruited in 2001), Dongquan Chen (bioinformatics; recruited in 2003) and Deli Wang (imaging data analysis; recruited in 2003).

Several MSS faculty have also developed their own bioinformatics methodological research initiatives with excellent productivity within a relatively short time. In the past year, four methodology papers in bioinformatics were published or accepted for publication in peer-reviewed journals and several abstracts were presented at national meetings. Several additional manuscripts are currently under preparation.
